Established in 1972 in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Farmers’ Market, Sur La Table set out to satisfy the growing demands from culinary professionals and home chefs for a reliable source of top quality cookware and hard-to-find kitchen tools.
Berkeley, home of Alice Waters, Chez Panisse and known as the site of the revolution in California cuisine is also where the Sur La Table cooking program was born. Since its inception, either through events, author appearances or cooking classes, culinary pioneers like Julia Child, Deborah Madison, Julie Sahni, Mollie Katzen, and Barbara Kafka have shared with our customers their culinary secrets. Always striving to be on the cutting edge of culinary innovation, our customers have demanded only the most current and inspired topics for classes to satisfy their passions for the pleasures of the table.
Known for its cutting edge in the culinary industry, Sur La Table was the first retailer on the West Coast to introduce the Cuisinart® food processor. The store quickly became a leader in the marketplace.
